Capturing the Moment

As part of Duesseldorf Photo Weekend 2017

One defining attribute of video art is the creative exploration of images in the flow of time. Through animation, montage techniques, and/or dissolves, images are composed that capture moments with the camera in an interplay of rest and motion.

This lecture by Darija Šimunović includes the presentation of video works from the IMAI Foundation’s archive that relate to photography on various levels—its content, its aesthetics, or the medium itself. Artists use photographs as source material (Maria Vedder, Adela Jušić), challenge the evidentiary value of images disseminated by the media (Andreas Troeger), create animated films from individual shots (Barbara Hlali), or engage with photography’s content (George Snow, Róbert Olawuyi).
