Mwangi Hutter: What Touches Us Most

What Touches Us Most is the title of a sound work with which Ingrid Mwangi (b. 1975) and Robert Hutter (b. 1964) are represented at this year’s documenta 14. Over the course of many years of collaboration, they have created numerous audiovisual works, photographs, performances, and installations. In them they address precisely that which touches and moves them most: the artistic and human connection they have entered into together. It is also reflected in the description they have chosen for their authorship: Mwangi Hutter as solo artist.

Kenya-born Ingrid Mwangi worked artistically with questions of identity from early on. In their joint works, too, themes such as the formation of identity, skin color, and postcolonial Africa play a large role. Self-composed and sun musical works lend Mwangi Hutter’s videos a mystical, poetic quality.
